About the yard

Catana was founded in 1984 by Jean-Pierre Prade and Thierry Goyard in Cogolin, in the Var region of southern France, with early hulls shaped by Australian multihull architect Lock Crowther. The yard moved to Canet-en-Roussillon in 1997 and went bankrupt in 2003, when French entrepreneur Olivier Poncin bought the business, launched the Bali brand in 2014, and built the operation into the Catana Group; after his death in May 2023 his son Aurélien took over as chairman and chief executive of a company employing around 1,500 people across four sites in France, Tunisia and Portugal. Catana itself builds performance bluewater cruising catamarans in fibreglass, with the current Ocean Class model measuring around 15 metres, positioned as a fast, long-distance platform distinct from the more volume-focused Bali range. Its largest yacht to date, reported by the yard, is the Catana 90, a 27.4-metre custom catamaran delivered in 2008, known for a twin-level hull layout that keeps technical systems below the floor and reserves the upper level for guest and crew space.
