About the yard

The yard that became Moonen Yachts began in 1963 as Scheepswerf de Ruiter, a small cruiser builder in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands. Financial difficulty in the early 1980s brought a sale to entrepreneur Rien Moonen, who redirected the business toward steel- and aluminium-hulled "pocket superyachts" and renamed it after himself. Moonen builds semi-custom and full-custom motor yachts from roughly 30 to 50 metres, with a second yard at Groot-Ammers, opened in 2008, adding capacity for the larger end of that range. Its most recognised model line is the Martinique series, offered in five lengths from 30 to 50 metres and designed with René van der Velden, distinguished by a shallow 2.15-metre draught intended for Caribbean cruising and a reported transatlantic range of around 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. Brigadoon, the first Martinique-series hull delivered in 2018, won a World Superyacht Award in 2019. Australian investors Matthew and Louise Baxter acquired the yard in 2019 and continue production under the Moonen name.
