Two weeks is enough to combine three of Greece's most distinctive cruising grounds — the sheltered Saronic Gulf, the dramatic East Peloponnese coast, and the western Cyclades — in a single, relaxed circuit from Athens. At 455 nm over fifteen days, the pace is gentle: short daily passages (averaging 30 nm), ample time ashore, and a mix of historical depth, natural beauty, and Cycladic island life.

Your Voyage
1

Athens to Cape Sounio

35 nm

Thirty-five nautical miles along the Attic coast to the Temple of Poseidon. The 5th-century BCE Doric temple on the cliff edge is one of the defining images of the Aegean. Sunset from the anchorage below is the classic opening to a Greek charter.

2

Sounio to Kythnos

29 nm

Twenty-nine nautical miles to the western Cyclades. Kythnos has natural hot springs at Loutra, the distinctive Kolona sandbar, and two quiet inland villages (Chora and Dryopis).

3

Kythnos to Sifnos

37 nm

Thirty-seven nautical miles to the gastronomic capital of the Cyclades. Medieval Kastro, turquoise bays at Vathi and Faros, and restaurants that draw visitors from across the island group.

4

Sifnos to Serifos

15 nm

A short 15-nm hop to Serifos — iron-mining heritage, a dramatic hilltop Chora, excellent food, and a relaxed atmosphere that rewards the unhurried visitor.

5

Serifos to Kea

51 nm

Fifty-one nautical miles north to Kea. The Lion of Kea, Vourkari waterfront, and proximity to Athens give this island a distinct character.

6

Kea to Poros

46 nm

Forty-six nautical miles crossing from the Cyclades into the Saronic Gulf. Poros sits on a narrow strait opposite the Peloponnese — amphitheatrical town, lemon forest opposite, Temple of Poseidon ruins.

7

Poros to Ermioni

23 nm

Twenty-three nautical miles along the East Peloponnese coast. Ermioni is a quiet harbour town on a peninsula, with good fish restaurants and pine-forested surroundings.

8

Ermioni to Spetses

25 nm

Twenty-five nautical miles to the most southerly Saronic island. Pine forests, Bouboulina's museum, the Old Harbour, and horse-drawn carriages.

9

Spetses to Leonidio

20 nm

Twenty nautical miles south along the Peloponnese coast to Leonidio, a small town set in a dramatic red-cliff gorge (Dafnon gorge). This is an off-the-beaten-path stop that very few yacht charters include — the gorge setting is spectacular, and the town has excellent traditional tavernas. Leonidio has become a growing rock-climbing destination.

10

Leonidio to Nafplio

29 nm

Twenty-nine nautical miles to Nafplio, the first capital of modern Greece (1829–1834). The town is beautifully sited beneath the massive Palamidi Fortress (999 steps to the summit), with a Venetian old town, the island fortress of Bourtzi in the harbour, and some of the best restaurants in the Peloponnese. Nafplio is widely considered the most beautiful town in mainland Greece.

11

Nafplio to Porto Heli

25 nm

Twenty-five nautical miles to Porto Heli's sheltered bay — a Greek Riviera destination with beach clubs, waterfront restaurants, and proximity to Amanzoe resort.

12

Porto Heli to Hydra

33 nm

Thirty-three nautical miles to Hydra. Car-free streets, donkey transport, stone sea-captains' mansions, and a harbour that has drawn artists and writers since the 1960s.

13

Hydra to Epidavros

46 nm

Forty-six nautical miles to the ancient theatre. The acoustics are legendary; summer performances during the Athens & Epidavros Festival are an extraordinary experience.

14

Epidavros to Aegina

18 nm

Eighteen nautical miles to Aegina. Temple of Aphaia, pistachio groves, and the harbour at Perdika for a final seafood dinner.

15

Aegina to Athens

23 nm

Twenty-three nautical miles back to Athens for disembarkation.

Practical Information

Season

May through October. The Saronic and East Peloponnese are sheltered; the western Cyclades legs are more exposed. Overall, this is a gentle route suitable for families and first-time charterers.

Pace

At ~30 nm per day, this is one of the most relaxed multi-region itineraries available. There is time for extended exploration ashore at every stop.

Provisioning

Athens, Poros, Spetses, Nafplio, and Aegina are well-stocked. Cyclades stops (Kythnos, Sifnos, Serifos) have limited supplies.
