Abeking & Rasmussen was founded in 1907 by Georg Abeking and Henry Rasmussen on the River Weser at Lemwerder, near Bremen. The yard remains family-owned, now led by Hans Schaedla, Rasmussen's great-grandson, with Matthias Hellmann as chairman of the management board. It has built naval and patrol vessels alongside yachts since its earliest years, a dual heritage that still shapes its engineering culture. The yard works in steel and aluminium, constructing full-custom motor yachts that run from around 50 to beyond 90 metres, and it is known for early adoption of small-waterplane-area twin hull (SWATH) technology on selected projects. Its largest yacht to date is Aviva, a 98.4-metre flagship delivered in 2017 that has collected multiple industry awards; the 2019-delivered Excellence, at a reported 80 metres, extended the yard's run of large steel-hulled customs into the following decade and introduced mirrored glass superstructure panels at a scale the yard had not attempted before. The 2016-delivered Cloudbreak, a 72-metre explorer with Espen Oeino exterior styling and adventure-focused amenities including a dedicated ski room, won a World Superyacht Award the following year.
