About the yard

HanseYachts was founded in 1990 by Michael Schmidt, winner of the 1985 Admiral's Cup, at a former fishing-cutter yard in Greifswald on Germany's Baltic coast that dated back to 1911. The company, first known as Yachtzentrum Greifswald and focused on refit work, launched its first model, the Hanse 291, in 1993, then expanded steadily under Schmidt's leadership; it now trades as HanseYachts AG, a listed group spanning several sailing and motor yacht brands built from the same Greifswald yard. Hanse builds series-production sailing yachts in fibreglass, currently ranging from the 10.4-metre Hanse 348 up to larger cruising models beyond 15 metres, known for self-tacking jibs and open, uncluttered deck layouts designed for shorthanded sailing. Its flagship moment came with the Hanse 675, a 21.1-metre carbon-hulled yacht that debuted at the 2016 Düsseldorf boat show as the largest series-built sailing yacht in Germany at the time, designed by Judel/Vrolijk & Co to bridge production building and semi-custom superyacht scale.
