Phuket

Thailand's Andaman Sea coast — from Phuket south through the Phi Phi Islands, Krabi, and Phang Nga Bay — is Southeast Asia's premier yacht charter destination. The scenery is instantly recognisable: towering limestone karsts rising from emerald water, hidden lagoons accessible only by tender, and white-sand beaches backed by jungle.

Phuket serves as the main charter base, with modern marinas and good provisioning. From Phuket, itineraries fan out in several directions. Phang Nga Bay to the north offers the famous James Bond Island and dozens of sea caves to explore by kayak. South, the Phi Phi Islands and Koh Lanta combine world-class snorkelling with beach life. Further south still, the Similan Islands deliver some of the best diving in the Indian Ocean.

The charter season runs from November to April, when the northeast monsoon brings dry weather and calm seas. During these months, the Andaman coast is at its best: warm, clear, and sheltered. Temperatures sit between 28-33°C, and water temperatures rarely drop below 28°C.

Thai hospitality and cuisine add a dimension that few charter destinations can match. Fresh seafood, street food tours in Phuket Town, and the warmth of local communities make shore excursions as rewarding as the sailing.

Highlights
  • Phang Nga Bay — emerald karst islands rising from glassy water, explored by kayak
  • Similan Islands national park — exceptional diving in protected waters
  • James Bond Island (Khao Phing Kan) and its iconic rock formations
  • Koh Samui and the Gulf islands — quieter and warmer in high season
Best Season

The Thailand superyacht charter season divides by coast. On the Andaman Sea — Phuket, Phang Nga Bay, Similan Islands — November through April is the dry season: the northeast monsoon brings settled weather, clear skies and the best diving visibility of the year. December through February is the prime window. May through October is the southwest monsoon on the Andaman coast: the Similans National Park closes in mid-May, and sea conditions between the islands can be rough. The Gulf of Thailand coast (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Ang Thong) runs on a different monsoon calendar — its wet season peaks in October and November, with January through September generally good. The best overlap for an itinerary combining both coasts is November or early December.

Why Charter Here

Thailand's Andaman coast is one of Southeast Asia's most rewarding yacht charter destinations. The scenery is extraordinary — limestone towers erupting from clear green water, hidden lagoons accessible only by tender, and beaches that feel genuinely undiscovered. From Phuket, guests can reach Phang Nga Bay, the Phi Phi Islands, and the Similan Islands within comfortable day cruises.

What sets Thailand apart from other tropical charter destinations is the combination of natural beauty, world-class diving, and Thai culture. The food alone justifies the voyage — from fresh seafood at beachside restaurants to Michelin-starred dining in Phuket Town. The hospitality is genuine and generous, and the infrastructure supports a comfortable charter experience.

Drivas Yachts works with a select fleet of motor yachts and sailing yachts operating from Phuket's modern marinas. We can design itineraries from short four-day Phang Nga explorations to ambitious twelve-day voyages reaching the Similan Islands and beyond. The Andaman season (November to April) offers reliably excellent conditions.
