About the yard

Canados, short for Cantieri Navali di Ostia, was founded in 1946 on a former hydroplane base in Ostia, near Rome, initially building military and commercial vessels for the Italian navy and harbour authorities. In the early 1950s a Gulf royal family commissioned a custom yacht after seeing the yard's patrol boats launched, and Canados pivoted toward yacht construction from there. French entrepreneur Michel Karsenti, owner of Oceanic Yachts, acquired the shipyard in 2016 and added the Gladiator performance line alongside the classic Canados range. The yard builds semi-custom motor yachts in fibreglass and composite, from around 13 metres up to 44 metres, and has delivered more than 800 hulls. Its Gladiator line, introduced within six months of the acquisition, produced the 27-metre Canados 90 Gladiator as its first hull, a sport yacht built for open-water performance rather than the flybridge cruising style that had shaped the yard for the four decades before the relaunch.
