Fountaine Pajot was founded in 1976 near La Rochelle, France, by Jean-François Fountaine and Yves Pajot among others, starting in racing dinghies before launching its first sailing catamaran, the Louisiane 37, in 1983.
The yard builds cruising catamarans in composite — sailing multihulls and, since the early 2010s, power catamarans — across a range from roughly 37 feet to around 80 feet. The twin-hull layout gives wide living space, shallow draft, and stable cruising.
The yard was an early mover into power catamarans, opening its Motor Yachts range in 1998, and the format suits charter well: wide separation between the hulls gives steady motion at anchor, while shallow draught opens up bays and anchorages that deeper monohulls cannot reach.
