Mangusta is the maxi-open brand of Overmarine Group, an Italian builder founded in 1985 by Giuseppe Balducci in Viareggio, Tuscany. The company remains family-run, now with Balducci's children and grandchildren involved, and operates shipyards across Viareggio, Massarosa, Massa and Pisa. The yard builds composite motor yachts from roughly 22 to over 49 metres, across the Maxi Open, GranSport and Oceano lines, and has delivered more than 300 yachts under the Mangusta name. Its Mangusta 165, at just under 50 metres, is built for speed on triple or quadruple MTU diesels, with the current 165 REV reaching a reported 34 knots at half load.
Mangusta's open-yacht identity was set by the 130, launched in 2004 as the model that carried the brand's signature layout — low profile, long foredeck, high-speed running gear — up to genuine superyacht length. It followed the original Mangusta 80 that launched the marque in the late 1980s, and its format, Maxi Open scaled up rather than softened into a flybridge cruiser, is the template Overmarine has built larger models against since.
