About the yard

Oceanco is a Dutch custom yacht builder founded in 1987 by a group of investors led by then-chief executive Richard Hein, with early hulls built in Durban, South Africa, before finishing work moved to the Netherlands. The yard has operated from Alblasserdam, near Rotterdam, since the 1990s, was controlled by Theodore Angelopoulos from 2002, and ownership changed hands again in 2025. Oceanco builds fully custom motor and sailing yachts, typically 80 metres and above, with no series production. Koru, its 125.8-metre three-masted sailing yacht delivered in April 2023, was the largest sailing yacht in the world on delivery.

The 81.3-metre Alfa Nero, delivered in 2007 to a design by Nuvolari & Lenard, introduced an aft-deck infinity pool that converts to a dance floor or helipad — reported as a world first at launch and since adopted widely across the large-yacht segment. The following year Oceanco delivered the 85.5-metre Sunrays, with a Terence Disdale interior, among the yard's largest builds of the period.
