Heesen was founded in 1978 by Frans Heesen at Oss, in the southern Netherlands. The yard was an early Dutch user of aluminium for yacht hulls and built a superyacht reported to exceed 50 knots in 1988.
It builds semi-custom motor superyachts in aluminium and steel, from roughly 30 to over 80 metres, including its Fast Displacement Hull Form series.
Working with Van Oossanen Naval Architects, Heesen developed the patented Fast Displacement Hull Form, a round-bilge hull with a bulbous bow first applied on the 65-metre Galactica Star in 2013. The yard reports markedly lower resistance than a conventional hull — and the form allows long range at economical speed alongside a high top end.
