Monaco Yacht Charter

The Principality Where the Berth Is More Exclusive Than the Hotel Suite

Charter in Monaco: What to Expect

Monaco is the only sovereign nation where the yacht berth is more exclusive than the hotel suite. Port Hercule — set directly below Casino Monte Carlo, with the Formula 1 circuit running along its quays — holds 700 berths total, with 110 designated for yachts over 24 metres and capacity for vessels up to 130 metres on the outer quay. Priority goes to Monegasque residents; non-resident berths are brokered, competitive, and often provisional until close to arrival. During GP week, a 40-metre berth commands upwards of EUR 150,000 for a four-day minimum commitment.

The country is 2.02 square kilometres — the smallest with a coastline — and this compression produces an extraordinary density of restaurants, casinos, and superyachts within walking distance of the passerelle. There is nowhere else in the Mediterranean where the berth, the casino, the three-Michelin-star restaurant, and the Formula 1 chicane are all within 500 metres.

Anchorages & Highlights

Port Hercule is the destination — stern-to on the quay with Casino Monte Carlo above you and the GP circuit at your feet. Speed limits are enforced strictly: 3 knots inside the port and channels, 5 knots within 300 metres of the coastline. Anchoring in Monaco Bay is restricted following Decision 278 (2022); positions are limited and charted.

Cap d'Ail, immediately across the French border to the west, acts as the practical overflow — 260 berths accommodating yachts up to 65 metres, with depths of 5-20 metres on the outer pier. When Port Hercule is full (which is most of July, August, GP week, and Yacht Show week), Cap d'Ail is where the tenders run from.

Port de Fontvieille on Monaco's western side holds 290 berths but maxes at 30 metres LOA — useful for smaller yachts only. The heliport is adjacent.

Dining & Local Cuisine

Le Louis XV - Alain Ducasse at the Hotel de Paris holds three Michelin stars and has done since Ducasse won them in 33 months after opening in 1987. The Mediterranean-focused tasting menu under executive chef Emmanuel Pilon is the pinnacle of the principality's dining scene. Blue Bay at the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel holds two Michelin stars for Marcel Ravin's Creole-Mediterranean fusion. Cipriani on the harbourfront serves Italian fine dining. For something less rarefied, La Rascasse sits at the Harbour Chicane corner of the F1 circuit — waterfront terrace, port views, and the knowledge that cars pass this spot at 160 km/h in May. Stars'n'Bars on Port Hercule is where the crews eat.

Best Time to Charter in Monaco

The season runs from late May through September. Sea temperatures reach 24-26C in July and August. The two events that define Monaco's calendar — and its berth pricing — are the Formula 1 Grand Prix (4-7 June 2026, moved from its traditional May slot) and the Monaco Yacht Show (23-26 September 2026). GP week is Monaco at maximum intensity and maximum cost; Yacht Show week is the industry's annual commercial summit. June and September outside these events offer warm weather, available berths, and the principality without the event surcharges.

Getting There

Nice Cote d'Azur (NCE) is 22 kilometres away. The Monacair helicopter runs every 30 minutes during peak hours — seven minutes gate to gate, EUR 195 per seat — and is the standard arrival for yacht guests. An electric van transfers passengers from the Fontvieille heliport to the port. Road transfer from Nice takes 35-50 minutes depending on traffic along the Basse Corniche.

At Aris Drivas Yachting, Monaco is a natural stop on French Riviera itineraries — often combined with St Tropez to the west, Portofino to the east, or Sardinia via an overnight crossing. We handle the Port Hercule berth requests, the GP-week logistics, and the restaurant reservations that make a Monaco stopover work at the level the principality demands.
